Goodbye, Black Mesa. Hello, Counter-Strike 2
For a few months I have been hosting a Black Mesa Deathmatch server called the Magnum-Opus. Black Mesa is fun but if became increasingly hard to get players online, BMS is a very unpopular game. So I made the decision to replace the server with a cs2 server called the CyberCafe once the game launched.
The CyberCafe, for the most part, is going to be a stock server until people start making maps and mods, including myself. But there are a few problems with this.
First, little to no documentation about cs2 exists. The mapgroups(cs2's mapcycle) don't seem to work without replacing the base file, which could break in future updates. There also seems to be no download server functionality so it seems that custom maps are off the table without requiring people download them from an external source like its 1994.
I'm sure that these things will improve with time, but for now, It kinda sucks ;(. The Magnum-Opus may not be canned forever as the owner of the Half-Life 2 Deathmatch server, SoCal #1, has taken interest in a SoCal BMS server. If this goes through, I'll probably give him all of my server files and let him go off that.
